D.A.S.H. Racing June 17, 2006 by: Terry Kirby Wind = 15-25; gusts to 35 mph. Chance of rain = 40%. Hmmm. Must be a model airplane contest in Dallas! Well, the wind didn't lay down and the rain was just a light sprinkle in the morning so the hearty regulars took to the racing circle once again on Father's Day weekend. The threat of worsening weather caused the racers to decide on running finals only and letting the best times determine the finish order. Only Russ Green signed up for Mouse I and he scratched due to the lack of any opposition. Five entered Goldberg and Russ smoked everyone for first place. The number two of Dave Ek was over 2:00 behind. Phil/Dale Racing took third, another minute behind Dave. Patrick Hempel and Tom Hamblet were not able to complete the 140 and finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Next up was Goodyear and surprisingly this event, with only three entries, was not the top draw. It did prove to be the closest racing as this was the only event we ran 3-up. Mr. Green proved to be the irresistible force again and took first with Phil/Dale some 21 seconds behind. Mike Greb was close behind for third. Tom Hamblet scratched from TQR when he discovered a broken shut off so this event was run as 2-2 up races. No surprise, first place was captured by Russ Green. Mike Greb was second, Bill Lee took third and Phil/Dale came in Fourth. I want to thank the people who volunteered to time and count laps. John Ashford, Patrick Hempel, Sandra Lee and Randi McConnell. Things like this just don't happen by themselves; it take the efforts of people like you. Finally a big thanks to Ritch's Hobbies for providing the fuel. Goldberg R. Green 1 9:52.00 D. Ek 2 12:01.85 D. Gleason 3 13:07.25 P. Hempel 4 124 laps T. Hamblet 5 79 laps Sport Goodyear R. D.A.S.H. Navy Carrier June 18, 2005 by: Terry Kirby Is carrier dead in Dallas? Not quite. At least not yet, according to those who showed up this Father's Day to compete. A little hot maybe but light winds meant everyone had a relatively easy time getting their plane off and back on the deck. Richard Staight made it up from Houston again with his beautiful Wildcat and did a good job keeping the lines tight. Dave Ek's nice Tigercat is a pleasure to see and hear with it's twin 15's singing along. If he could just get a little more "umph" from them it would sure help! Ol' Dale left the Stunt circle long enough to put in a respectable flight with his CL II MO1. That OS motor really cooks! Mike Greb put up impressive flights with his MO's in Profile, CLI and CLII. I especially liked the drop from 8' to try and catch a wire for landing. Knocked the tuned pipe right off the engine. Thanks to Phil Dunlap for working the center judge again, newcomer Zachary Wright for helping with the clocks and to everyone that helped with set up / take down on the deck. That's a lot of work!
